Elisha Cheney learned clockmaking from his father Benjamin Cheney. This family of clockmakers are among the first to make a standardized signed wooden clock movements in Connecticut. Elisha is likely the individual who trained Eli Terry in clockmaking. 
Elisha Cheney’s earlier clocks are similar to his father’s , but after his removal to Berlin Connecticut in the 1790s, he made clocks similar to the mechanisms Terry was producing. Most of his known clocks have rare paper on wood dials. All of his clocks originally had these hands on them. He was the only clockmaker to use these very unique and formal hands. The original pattern for casting Cheney’s hour hand is in Daniel Burnap’s collection of tools, now at the Connecticut  Museum of Culture and History, possibly linking Cheney to Burnap as well. 
These are my all time favorite cast clock hands. They should only be installed on Elisha Cheney clocks.
