Asa Hopkins first designed these hands for wooden clocks he made in a small barn at Northfield Connecticut around 1810. He continued to use these hands during his business partnership with Lewis, and on clocks made later on in his “river shop” under his name alone. He gave up clock making in the late 1820s and switched to flute making. His neighborhood was later called Fluteville. 
Orange Hopkins also used these exact same hands on his clocks.
