Lampblack is an historical black pigment used for various black paints, inks, and stains. In clockmaking, it is used for tinting asphaltum paint for clock dials and reverse glass paintings. It is also used as the primary pigment for Daniel Burnap’s blacking wax.
Lampblack can be dissolved into bases like alcohol, water, and oil. It requires thorough mixing to dissolve it into these bases.
